Another New Discovery – Popular Workshop

I just love the phrase ‘Steve Albini produced’. It’s usually a seal of quality and a pretty decent indication that I’ll like the record. In the instance of Popular Workshop, it was a good sign indeed. ‘Her Birthday’ is the third single from their debut album We’re Alive And We’re Not Alone, which is out on that ever reliable bastion of cool music This Is Fake DIY Records. It’s the first track I’ve ever heard of theirs, I have to admit, but it’s 100% my cup of tea. It’s got the thick bass sound of Shellac coupled with angular and edgy guitars. I liked it so much that I just went and bought the album from Amazon. You should do the same (or even get it direct from the label). Splendid stuff.

‘Discovered’ is a really annoyingly pretentious term which derails from the actual content you’ve been sticking up here.

Why so? I’m using ‘discovered’ in the personal sense, as in, I just discovered it. I’m not trying to infer that I’m the first one to have ever heard this or anything like that, simply that it’s new to me.

I know it’s not meant to irk, but it gets to more people than just myself. It’s very easy to read things as they’re not intended on the glorius internet :)

Nevertheless, keep up the pace, the posts so far have all been great.

Fair enough, I can see how you could think it was meant differently.

Cheers for the comments, nice words and for checking the blog out.
