People Power: Sinead Green

Yeo! Starting a new thing on the blog, People Power posts, basically getting people who come down to the club to put together a blog post of some of their favourite tunes. Sinead Green is forever suggesting songs to play at the club, which is utterly great. I figured it would be a good idea to give her a blog post of her own to get some tracks she loves out there. She actually came up with a theme for her blog entry and everything, it’s totally ace! Here are her picks and words. Thanks and props to Sinead!

Recently I’ve been revisiting some music that, when I first heard, I was mesmerized – well, maybe not mesmerized, but you get the gist.
Songs I heard and on first listen thought “WHAT IS THIS??!” and knew that the artists couldn’t possibly create a bad album with tracks of this calibre…
Tame Impala – Half Full Glass Of Wine
Imposing, dark, looming and a bit sinister – this track could be from a 60’s psyche rock band in essence but also reminiscent of Queens of the Stone Age; heavy guitar, driving drums and bass, with a sexual undercurrent – Rock On Tommy! Lovely!

On first hearing this, I was totally addicted… the bass line hooks you in, coupled with the bluesy vocal and the swaggering percussion provides a right aural treat… I defy anybody not to listen to this track and not be singing it for the rest of the day. These dudes are playing Belfast in May and I urge anyone to go see them as they are one of the most spellbinding lives acts I’ve ever seen.

A bit of beauteous electronica for your shell like… Having only ever really heard of Four Tet in a remixing capacity, when I stumbled upon last year’s album (There is Love in You), I had a fair idea of what to expect – glitchy, clever electronic beats that merge with physical instrumentals and organic sounds to create pulsing pieces of music that uplift…. This is the first track I heard from the album and it’s a beauty!!!

Yo! Welcome to the GIGANTIC blog. The primary purpose of this place is to promote music that we’re into, and that we’d like other people to hear too. We want to try and help break new bands and tracks, and also like to dig up old classics that we think need more exposure. Essentially, we want to help makes tunes Gigantic. Of course, we do enjoy throwing out the big pop and electro bangers as well, we’re not music snobs.
