Yo! Welcome to the GIGANTIC blog. The primary purpose of this place is to promote music that we’re into, and that we’d like other people to hear too. We want to try and help break new bands and tracks, and also like to dig up old classics that we think need more exposure. Essentially, we want to help makes tunes Gigantic. Of course, we do enjoy throwing out the big pop and electro bangers as well, we’re not music snobs.

Lola, Party Like It’s Ya Birthday
Today’s blog post is dedicated to Gigantic regular and all-round party animal, Lola Bonner. She’s been coming down to the club for absolutely ages. In fact, I’m pretty sure she’s been coming down before she was legally allowed to, the scamp. She used to always invite herself into the DJ box and totally melt my head, then get totally hammered, and be even more melty. It seems that she has calmed down a bit of later, thank gawd.
These three tunes are the ones that remind me of Lola the most, because she’s banged on about them enough either to me or Kimbo.
First up is Modest Mouse ‘Dashboard’. Believe it or not, Lola was the first person to have ever requested this song at Gigantic, and considering it went on to become a full-blown anthem and perennial set-staple, that’s good going.

Keeping it old school, here’s ‘Slow Hands’ by Interpol. This used to get played every single week too, though I always like to drop a remix of it that I’m fond of. This is the original version, mind, just to keep it faithful.

And the last choice is ‘Sexy Bitch’. Just to clarify, it’s not that I think Lola is a sexy bitch (calm down, Dave), it’s chosen because she complained to Kim how no club she goes to would ever play the track. It took me long enough to muster up the courage to play it myself, and it still gets a fair few odd looks from the dance floor. You know what though? It’s a damn good pop tune.
