Gigantic: 2/12/11 – RePete

Only getting round to blogging about last Friday night because Pete Donaldson nearly killed me. Ask him about if the next time you see him, I’m too cut up to talk about it now…
Last week was the first time Pete and I had DJ’d together in over a decade. We used to play together at the legendary Belfast club Vico’s. He gave me my first residency, and for two years I banged out relentlessly hard techno to a room full of lunatics. Good times.
We didn’t play techno on Friday though, oh no. We played a really wide selection of tunes – hip-hop, rock, pop and loads of daft stuff. Was funtacular. However, we didn’t get to play everything, so I thought I’d fire up some of the requests that we missed out on.
First up is a track for Chris Rad. It was the first time he had been down in a while, and he made a few good requests that I couldn’t fit in. This was my favourite though - Kavinksy ‘Nightcall’. A lot of people might know it from the Drive soundtrack, which is officially Dead Ace. Defo gonna play it this week.

The next track is for Niall Kennedy, who was back in Belfast after doing a humungous tour with the rock behemoth And So I Watch You From Afar. He asked for Sleigh Bells ‘Infinity Guitars’, which is a beast of a tune. Rawr.

Other good requests that I actually got time for were Brian Coney‘s shout out for Beach Boys ‘Kokomo’, best tune eva, Geri Doherty for Tom Vek ‘Aroused‘ and Andy Campbell for Starship ‘Nothing Gonna Stop Us Now’. Belter. Another set highlight, and one of the overall highlights of the night, was when Pete played his own Nine Inch Nails remix. Cassy Gillespie actually screamed across the whole dancefloor in excitement. Good show.
Big ups to Andy, Nik, Matt, Aoife, Niall, Stu, Hollie, Dermot, Boston, Tamara, Aaron, Dave, Lauren, Cassy, Nadine, Garth, Rheda, Valerie, Chirs, Brian, Phily, Geri, Hanita, Donal, Aine, Manus and everyone else who came down but I don’t know the name of!

Yo! Welcome to the GIGANTIC blog. The primary purpose of this place is to promote music that we’re into, and that we’d like other people to hear too. We want to try and help break new bands and tracks, and also like to dig up old classics that we think need more exposure. Essentially, we want to help makes tunes Gigantic. Of course, we do enjoy throwing out the big pop and electro bangers as well, we’re not music snobs.
