Come Down With Me

Seeing as the blog is usually focussed on the kind of tunes you are likely to hear in the club, I never really get the chance to put up any real down tempo, laidback tunes. In order to change that I’ve decided to start doing weekly posts of more chilled music, under the Come Down With Me banner. They’ll have a distinct Sunday feel to them, and will be the kind of songs you can just flake out to.

First up is ‘Zebra’ by Beach House. Their most recent album Teen Dream is absolutely lush from start to finish, and is just a beautiful collection of songs that I never get bored listening to. This is the opening track from the record, and if you don’t own the album already you should head off and buy it now.

Next is ‘A Grand Lover Story’ by Kid Loco, taken from the album of the same name. I first discovered Kid Loco totally by accident. Well, I say by accident, but it was really just in a more old school way. Myself and a few friends were on a short holiday break to London about 14 years ago, and we were doing a bit of record shopping in Camden. I was in a bit of trip-hop phase, and just lifted the Kid Loco album on a whim. I listened to it on the store turntable and was hooked immediately. The whole album just has a wonderful cinematic feel to it, if the movie was centred around people spending their time in sunlit meadows.

And the last track I’m putting up is DJ Shadow ‘Midnight In A Perfect World’. This song just feels like one big sigh, as if you are exhaling a breath for the full five minutes. There is an amazing Gab mix of the track which has spoken word sections, but that version actually instills panic as opposed to chilled out vibes, so I’m sticking with the original.
