Belated Tunes Of The Weekend

I’ve been mad busy this week, so I’m only now getting around to posting up the highlights of my sets on Friday and Saturday.
GIGANTIC turned out to be another really fun night. Considering how much was on, and the fact that it is still the summer, it was great to see a such a big bunch of regulars down getting their dance on. It was another one of those occasions where one random request changes the course of the set hugely. I got asked to play Jeff Mills ‘The Bells’ again, and I was only too happy to oblige. Alex Johnson loved it too. Of course, this set me off on a massive banging techno tangent, the highlight of which was getting to play Laurent Garnier’s ‘Crispy Bacon’. I honestly don’t think I had played this song out in about ten years or more. It still bangs. I also couldn’t believe how many people went for the techno section. Might start wheeling more old school stuff out.

Another highlight of the set, though a bit more sedate, was getting to play The B-52′s ‘Rock Lobster’. Never dates.

Saturday night DJing in Mister Tom’s was a whole lot of fun too. The way the evening tends to go in there is that there is a massive crowd early on, then the upstairs gets opened and the room clears out a bit, then the place fills up again a wee while later. By the end of the night it’s always rammed with people singing along to whatever daft cheese I’ve decided to play. I’m posting up Tupac ‘Changes’ here, because a few guys kept asking me for it, and when it was finally played they went pure doolally. Good lads.

The last track I’m posting here is my personal favourite of the weekend. I don’t know why I’ve taken such a shine to this tune, but I can’t help myself. It’s pure eighties pop electro, with a huge chorus. The chances are that you’ll recognise it when you hear it. Beat it into ye.

Yo! Welcome to the GIGANTIC blog. The primary purpose of this place is to promote music that we’re into, and that we’d like other people to hear too. We want to try and help break new bands and tracks, and also like to dig up old classics that we think need more exposure. Essentially, we want to help makes tunes Gigantic. Of course, we do enjoy throwing out the big pop and electro bangers as well, we’re not music snobs.
